Karate Belt Testing

What a night!  The kids worked extra hard at tonight's test, but it paid off.  Very proud of our tired, but happy 7 Gup Blue Belt!!!

Football Banquet

Last night Noah had his football banquet for last season.  His team was undefeated last year :o)  They ran a highlight reel with plays from last year for all the various groups and then handed out some gifts/awards to the kids.  Here is a picture from this morning with Noah wearing the shirt & shorts they gave him, plus an equipment bag & his trophy:

New Hampshire Tournament

So proud of our little man on many levels for how today went.  We got a really early start to help beat the mini snow storm we were supposed to get and got to the tournament really early.  Team fighting was first up.  Our team had a bye for the first round and our first opponent had a 6 year old as their first fighter so Noah was in.  He did a great job and scored more points than his opponent.  After the five team fighters finished the 2 teams were tied.  The way they break the tie is to have someone chose a number between 1 & 5.  Of course they chose #1 so that meant Noah had to defend the team.  He did an amazing job and won it for his team 5 to 4!!  This meant they moved onto the championship round which with another group of 5 fighters they were able to take 1st place!!  While I was so proud of the job he did I was even more impressed with how accepting he was of my explanation why he didn't personally get a trophy for the win.  They give 5 trophies to each team for whichever place they come in and obviously between the 2 rounds they had more than 5 fighters....so not everyone gets one.  I told him it is important that he remembers how great he did and be happy with his contribution to the team....he shrugged his shoulders and said ok :o)

After some waiting it was time for his forms.  There were again 16 kids in his division.  They broke them into 2 groups of 8 and he competed 5th in the line-up.  He did a great job, but the judges felt there were a few others that were stronger.  He took 4th place.  This is the first time in over a year of competing that he's ever seemed unhappy with what he got.  He came over with a semi-smile and said..."I don't get it...I thought I had first".  He could have done it a little stronger and been a little lower in his stances, but I had a hard time honestly telling him that all the others performed better than he did.  Again, he was overall accepting.

We had a long wait before the sparring, but when the time came he did a good job again.  He won his first 2 match ups...then a mom's worst fear (well at least this mom's worst fear).  The kid that Noah was sparring with to determine first/second (which happened to be the won that he beat twice earlier in team fighting) threw a really high kick and Noah didn't block.  Yep straight to the face and knocked him hard.  He tried to fight the tears, but they came and they had to call the medic over to make sure he was alright.  After he collected himself he put his head piece back on and got back into the match.  The kid got a warning and Noah got the point for the illegal hit to the face.  He didn't win, but I couldn't have been more proud of his bravery.  I'm not sure I would have had the guts to get back in it.  It was a long ride home, but here's the smiling little champion after a very exhausting day.  Congrats buddy!

Kylie's Competition

Very proud of my little girl.  She gave it her best today at their first competition.  First was a duo with one of her best friends Maya.  They danced to It's On from Camp Rock 2 and did well.  They ended up with a Gold Achievement & 4th overall for the Mini Shooting Stars.  Here is a pic:

Not long after she went out for her first lyrical solo - Butterfly Fly Away.  She did a great job.  She missed one step, but was able to play it off pretty well.  She got another Gold achievement :)  Here are some pics:
With a little more work I think they will do even better next month.  Love this little girl!

Karate kick-off tournament & banquet

We had a nice weekend away although I spent a lot of it sick.  We left early, but it still took forever to get there between the morning snow and plows on the road.  Noah got changed and was ready to go.  They started with the girls  & under forms in his ring...1 girl.  Then they call the 6 & under boys...ummm yeah...16 of them!!!  That is the largest we have ever seen in his group.  When it is that big they split them into 2 groups of 8.  Noah was in the second group and was 2nd to last to go.  He did a great job and was able to beat out all his competitors to take 1st place!!  Then it was a quick change into sparring gear and right back in the ring.  They broke them into the 2 groups again and this time his group was first.  He won his first match, but lost the 2nd.  This left him with one final match to determine if he would get 3rd or 4th.  I think the loss got him a little mad because be was a little more motivate and won.  So he finished 3rd for sparring....still a great job!

We finished up around 11:30, ate some lunch and then headed to the indoor waterpark.  The kids and Jason played around for a couple hours and then we were able to check into the room.  We let the kids unwind a little with some TV then they went to the arcade with Daddy for a little bit before the banquet.  Once we were all ready we headed down.  Both kids were being all shy as usual and wanted to sit with us rather than the kids.  Eventually Kylie did go over to the "kid" table to hang out with some of the girls.  Dinner was ok and then it was time for awards...which went on for quite awhile, but Noah was super excited to get his "2011 Double Crown Champion in the Boys 6 & Under Division" award.  He brought it back to the table and wouldn't let it off his lap.  At one point we looked over and he was just sitting there hugging it:

Once all the awards were done all the Excel members went into the hallway to get a group shot.  We grabbed Master D'Amato after that so Noah could get an individual shot with him:

Right after they turned the lights down and started the dancing.  Kylie was out on the dance floor with some girls and Noah was begging to go to bed..go figure!  So I ended up bringing him to the room since I wasn't feeling that great anyway and Jason stayed at the party with her.  I think they were out until around 11.  This morning we got up, had a quick breakfast, checked out and headed for the water park for a little bit before driving home.  I'll try to load up a couple water park pictures later.  Now we are just recouping a little...waiting for the Giants game later.  Hoping I shake this cold quick and that the rest of the family stays clear of it.  Next weekend it's the normal run around + UCONN basketball game on Sunday...can't wait!  Have a great week all!!

Fantastic Weekend

Sitting down after the most amazing weekend!!  Saturday started like most other Saturdays.  Got up, got ready and got the kids to CCD & karate for 9am.  Watched the first class at karate then picked Kylie up at 10:15 and went back to karate to watch the second class.  Little did Noah know he was in the the biggest surprise ever.  After the competition class finished (second class) he wasn't allowed to leave.  They called him and 6 of his other classmates to the front of the room.  Master D'Amato explained how hard these 6 kids worked and how incredibly proud he was of each of them.  Because of this he was excited to tell them they are now the newest members of Team Excel!!  Then 7 of the existing members presented each kid with their new uniform.  Here are some pics from the presentation:

Go Team Excel

We followed the induction with basketball and then some yummy cookie making :o)  Today we had some great friends over for our annual Santa ride.  The kids had a blast playing with each other while we waited for the for the special visitor.  After much waiting he arrived and the kids were excited:
